This policy explains how the Links Paediatric Hub website handles personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). The hub is a shared website for four independent paediatric practices at Netcare Linksfield Hospital; each practice is a separate responsible party for the patient records it keeps.
What this website collects
The website does not ask for your name, contact details, ID number or any medical information, and it has no sign-up or booking form.
We record anonymous usage events, such as which pages are viewed and which contact buttons are tapped, so each practice can understand how families find them. These events contain no personal information.
Patient information held by the practices
When you call, WhatsApp or visit a practice, you are dealing with that independent practice directly. Your child's health records are kept by that practice under its own privacy notice and the confidentiality duties of the HPCSA and the National Health Act.
Health information is special personal information under POPIA and is processed by the practices only for providing care, billing and legal record-keeping.
Children's information
Information about a child under 18 is processed only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian, or where the law allows it. This website does not knowingly collect any information from children.
The Ask Links assistant
If you choose to use the Ask Links assistant, your questions are sent to an AI service to generate an answer. The conversation is not saved by this website and disappears when you close or refresh the page.
Please do not type your child's name, ID number or personal medical details into the assistant.
Cookies and similar technologies
The website uses only the storage needed for it to work, plus anonymous analytics events. We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time.
Links to other websites
Buttons for WhatsApp, Google Maps, Google reviews and the Netcare website take you to services with their own privacy policies.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you and request a copy
- ask for information to be corrected or deleted
- object to processing or withdraw consent
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za, complaints.IR@inforegulator.org.za)
Retention and security
Anonymous usage data is kept for no longer than 26 months. Practices keep patient records for the periods required by law and HPCSA guidelines.
